My speech is molded by the people I spend most of my time with, it is a direct influence of these people. Like most individuals my early speech development began in the home. Mother never used improper speech even though she could have been easily conditioned to do so because she grew up and raised my brother and I east oakland, but I could never tell the difference between the proper versus the improper speech that was all around me on a daily basis.
I think I understand what you mean when you say that your Mother never used improper speech when talking to you as a kid. My parents, before I was even born, said they weren't going to speak "baby" to me. It made things alot easier that English was my first language not Gibberish!

ReplyDeleteI understand how your mom was not influenced by the improper English that was used in her neighborhood. She wanted to educate her children the proper way instead of leading you guys around the bush in how to speak properly. Many people talk to their babies with "GoGo and GaGa", don't get me wrong it's cute but babies will catch up quickly. Why not teach them how to speak the right way from the very beginning so later on in life they can take the time to learn other things instead of the right way to conduct themselves through speech!
